The Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) has three major work items approved by the Board of Directors for specification development within the organization.  The three items are Digital Key, MirrorLink® and Car Data.  For more information, please see below.

Digital Key: Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) is developing an open standard for use of smart devices as digital keys for automotive. The solution will be car and smart device agnostic. It will enable consumers to conveniently lock/unlock the vehicle and start the engine along with other interesting features. The solution will also enable provisioning and sharing of keys with properties associated with them. The Digital Key specification will be built on existing standard technologies such as Global Platform, GSMA, Bluetooth, and NFC. CCC is also collaborating with other standardization organizations to create a lean and efficient solution. The first phase of Digital Key specification is targeted for completion by the end of Q1 of 2018.

MirrorLink®: MirrorLink is an open standard for car-smartphone connectivity which allows users stay connected to their smartphone apps while driving. Drivers interact with their compliant smartphone apps via any compliant in-vehicle infotainment system (IVI). The smartphone applications project their user interface (UI) to the IVI display. Audio apps can also stream and play through the car’s speakers. MirrorLink enables interoperability between a wide range of smartphones and cars. It also allows all players in the ecosystem to have an equal stake in the booming connected-car marketplace. MirrorLink® is available today in millions of cars, from 100s of millions of mobile devices, powering dozens of applications.  Read More

Car Data: The Car Data project is intended to connect consumers to service providers to offer them tailored vehicular services enhanced by vehicle data. The target use cases include usage-based insurance, real-time road condition monitoring, integrated vehicle maintenance, car ride share or hailing services, and more. The Car Data solution will be car, smart device and service agnostic. The solution will facilitate the exchange of vehicle data and will give control over the data to involved stakeholders. CCC is intended to define an authentication and authorization service platform that will enable data provider to offer car data through any marketplace, while preventing uncontrolled dissemination and use, without explicit consent. The Car Data project is currently in the requirements and use case phase.  Read More
