Get to Know Zoe Fan: CCC’s APAC Director

The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region is one of the automotive industry’s innovation centers. As we work to make the CCC the trusted source for defining how vehicles interact with devices and the world to improve the consumer experience, we understand the importance of growing our presence in the APAC region and creating more opportunities to work alongside the automotive manufacturers, device manufacturers, and technology companies based in the area.

To expand the CCC’s APAC involvement, we’re proud to welcome Xiaoyu “Zoe” Fan as our new APAC Director. We sat down with Zoe to talk about her background, what brought her to the CCC, and how she envisions the CCC expanding in the APAC region.

Why did you want to join the CCC?
I’ve spent many years in the automotive industry and have had the opportunity to see firsthand how connectivity has evolved and moved the industry forward to where we currently are. The exciting thing is we’re only starting to scratch the surface of connectivity’s role in the automotive industry, and the CCC will play a significant role in continuing to explore what comes next in a scaled and meaningful way. I find that incredibly hopeful and motivating, and I’m looking forward to being a part of the CCC’s work.

Why do you feel a standard like CCC Digital Key™ is important to the automotive industry?
There’s a saying I often go back to which states, “without rules, there can be no order.” This is particularly true when we look at how much uncertainty can surround technology when it’s not standardized or regulated. Industry progress requires clarity and universal standards. With technologies like digital key on the precipice of widespread adoption, a standard like CCC’s Digital Key™ has never been more important because it enables all innovation and development to work towards a common goal. Standardization is what will allow digital key technology to reach its full potential and meet consumers’ expectations for functionality, interoperability, and security.

What excites you most about connected technology in the automotive industry?
The most exciting aspect of connected technology is its potential to completely transform how consumers interact with their vehicles. When someone buys a car, they aren’t just thinking about driving. They’re thinking about their entire vehicle experience. Connected technology makes that experience more efficient, accessible, convenient, and secure. Creating services that complement consumers’ lives through the interconnection of cars with smartphones, other vehicles, and other devices allows cars to evolve beyond a means of transportation. Connected technology opens a wide range of vehicle-based usage scenarios that are yet to be explored and discovered.

Where do you see the industry heading in the next 5-10 years? What will be the most interesting developments in the APAC region?
In the next 5-10 years, we’ll see technology in the automotive industry develop at an astonishing speed. Due to the high penetration rate of automotive connectivity, the large user base, and the significant interest in new products and technologies in the APAC region, we’ll see many of the new services and application scenarios that can change consumption patterns emerge in this region early before being scaled globally.

What goals do you have for the CCC in your new role?
In the APAC region, there are several organizations engaging with the research and exploration of automotive connected technologies, but not all of them are familiar with the CCC. My goal is to change that. I plan to grow CCC awareness in the APAC region, allowing more industry-related organizations to recognize the CCC, understand our mission, and participate in developing this ecosystem.

What do you want Members to know about your role?

The development of connected technology in the automotive industry within the APAC region is moving quickly, and this will undoubtedly bring new opportunities and challenges. I look forward to working with our members in the area, including automakers, device manufacturers, and technology companies, to tackle these head on and better understand their priorities and needs. I look forward to serving as an internal champion for our APAC members and building the CCC’s reputation as one of the leading technology standards organizations regionally and worldwide.
