Ingenious smartphone connectivity technology makes it easier than ever to bring apps to the dash
Geneva International Motor Show – March 9, 2015 — The Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), an organization driving global technologies for smartphone-centric car connectivity solutions, today announced that the new Toyota Aygo is MirrorLink®-enabled. Now standard on more of today’s most popular vehicles and smartphones, MirrorLink is the most ingenious way to bring smartphone content to the dash. Huge icons make apps easy to use and smart technology knows if the car is in Park or Drive.
Toyota and the CCC invite the press and public to see the new MirrorLink-enabled Aygo in Toyota’s booth at the Geneva International Motor Show, taking place now through March 15.
“As one of the first global automakers to feature MirrorLink, Toyota is very pleased to deliver the latest version of the technology in the mass-market Aygo,” said Derek Williams, GM, Telematics Programme & Multimedia Product Planning of Toyota Motor Europe. “As more and more smartphones ship with MirrorLink, Aygo customers can take advantage of easier and more responsible access to navigation, music and phone apps while they drive.”
MirrorLink is the leading industry standard for car-smartphone connectivity and is designed for maximum interoperability between a wide range of smartphones and cars. MirrorLink is also the only OS- and OEM-agnostic standard for car-smartphone connectivity and the only vendor-neutral standard where no single entity has a controlling stake. MirrorLink thus offers the quickest global route to more responsible and enjoyable connected driving.
“Based on its popularity, the Aygo is a key deployment for MirrorLink,” said Alan Ewing, President and Executive Director of the CCC. “This is a prime example of how automakers can place powerful infotainment in entry-level vehicles without sacrificing profit margins. For consumers, MirrorLink very quickly differentiates the Aygo from its competitors.”
